Congo’s raw materials have been exploited since the illegitimate rule of King Leopold and his excavation of rubber. It continues today with modern abuses of conflict minerals such as coltan, copper, gold, and lithium-- to power our most sophisticated devices. The artist explores the wealth and consequential destruction of Congolese peoples and their land-- in symbiosis, through symbols, rhythm, and historical cultural reference. Focus on the extraction of indigenous materials from native land serves as metaphor for its inhabitants' condition, analyzing the repercussions that come with the theft of people's right to a self-actualized life, given the abundance nature provides.
